CGTN TV CHANNEL
CGTN, formerly known as CCTV-9 and CCTV News, is an international English-language cable TV service based in China.China Global Television Net, Beijing. One of the six channels provided by Kam is owned by China Central Television (CCTV). There is a state-run media organization in China, controlled by the Chinese Communist Party’s propaganda department.
LAUNCHING DATE OF CGTN NEWS
CCTV-9 was launched on September 25, 2000, and was renamed CCTV News on April 26, 2010. On February 6, 2012, CCTV USA was launched, with a daily programming schedule starting from a production center in Washington DC.
On October 11, 2012, CCTV Africa was launched in Nairobi, Cassia. All the channels of CCTV News Group were appointed as CGTN on December 31, 2016.
CGTN currently has three broadcasting centers – Beijing (Maine), Nairobi and Washington, and 70 worldwide broadcasts.
HISTORY OF CGTN NEWS
On January 1, 1979, CCTV began considering the beginning of China’s “reform and opening up” period for English-language international news programs. The English News Bulletin began airing on CCTV 2 in 1986,and became available to viewers abroad in February 1991 when it went on CCTV 4.
In its early years, CCTV-9 broadcast English-language news and cultural interest for most of the day, and re-broadcast most of the night in China. His biggest plan was to cover the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
In 2018, CGTN reporter Kang Lin verbally accused a panel at the Conservative Party conference of having “fake sugar” among other things. After being told to leave, he attacked another participant.
On April 26, 2010, the channel was renamed CCTV News. Some shows were rebranded while new programs were added. The English website is managed by China Network Television (CNTV), a CCTV web streaming service. On January 1, 2011, the channel’s former name, CCTV-9, was seized by two CCTV documents.
With new faces, new studios and new equipment, the channel’s top executives said they expect to strengthen the network’s news-gathering capabilities, while China and the rest of Asia and the rest of the world.
FOREIGN NEWS ANCHOR
In addition to Chinese anchors, CGTN also employs foreigners as newscasters, many of whom have extensive experience, such as Edwin Mehr (a former Australian Broadcasting Corporation reader and weather person), while others may pursue careers. Beginners may be university graduates.
On September 18, 2019, British TV executive Nick Pollard resigned as CGTN’s advisor and consultant, raising the issue of impartiality in Hong Kong coverage. He resigned citing CGTN’s failure to comply with the rules. Oppose the anti-extradition bill. He joined CGTN in December 2018.
DETENTION OF CHENG LEI
In mid-August 2020, Australian journalist Cheng Lei, who had been working as a business show anchor at CGTN since 2012, was detained by Chinese authorities and charged in February 2021 with leaking state secrets. Which was not disclosed further.
Shortly after Cheng’s arrest two Australian journalists working in China fled the country after being questioned by authorities on national security grounds, For the first time in almost 50 years, journalists working in China have left the Australian media unattended. CGTN has removed all references to Cheng from its website and social media, and has not reported or commented on Cheng’s detention.
CGTN IN OTHER COUNTRIES
- CGTN AFRICA:
CCTV Africa is a news production center for China Central Television, which was launched on January 11, 2012 in Kenya. CGTN initially produced an hour-long program that included African News, Talk Africa and Face of Africa, and aired on CGTN’s English news channel.
- CGTN AMERICA:
CGTN USA is the American division of this news channel which began broadcasting on February 6, 2012. It is based in Washington, D.C. and operates in North and South America. The service employs American and Chinese journalists and produces US-based programs for CGTN and CCTV. Ma Jing is the Director General of CGTN USA, and Jim Lori is a Senior Journalist from Asia, Executive Advisor.
In 2010, CCTV News won the National Window Award at the 2010 Hotbird TV Awards. The channel’s Washington, D.C. Based Broadcaster, CGTN USA, Jane Breaker: When Can’t Be a Four-Letter, and Has Won a Multiple York Medal, has won a News and Documentary Emmy, has also won a House News News photographer. Association Awards.
ACCUSATION OF BIAS:
Despite the resurgence of CCTV America, critics have expressed concern over the level of self-censorship used by the channel, especially on sensitive domestic issues in China.
Philip Cunningham of Cornell University, who has appeared on China Central Television’s talk show more than 100 times. said the various programs covered a wide range of sensitive issues, including Tibet and Xinjiang.
